Meet Chris

Chris is dedicated to being a voice for Parents, Teachers, Principals, and other School Administrators who are most responsible for the quality of education and for what happens in the classroom. As a Board Member, Chris has worked tirelessly for efficient use of resources, meaningful engagement of stakeholders, and improved business operations to help increase quality academic opportunities for all students in the District.

The belief in Public Education is what drives Chris’ public service and commitment because he feels it is a strategic investment that can touch so many issues our community struggles with – Improving the quality of life for all in Shelby County by:

  • reducing poverty and crime

  • increasing tax revenues to address social needs and growth

This journey started as an engaged parent who first served as PTO President at Idlewild Elementary in 2006.

Then Chris began advocating at City Council meetings for continued funding of Memphis City Schools in 2007.

Serving as Parliamentarian on the MCS Parent Assembly Board Chris worked to help the District engage parents and families facilitating two-way communications so the needs and concerns of students could be addressed more effectively.

In 2011 Chris was appointed to the merged MCS/SCS School Board, re-elected in 2012 and 2014 and has served on the Board in many leadership capacities most recently as Chairman of the SCS Board in 2016-17 and has been Chairman of the Audit Budget and Finance Committee since 2012.

Chris is a lifelong Memphian whose knowledge of the dynamics of our community combined with his experience in the Financial Services Industry for 31 years brings to the Board qualities that are needed to help SCS become a high performing school district that help our student and our community achieve its full potential.
